President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a supplementary ministerial list to the Senate.

The list, consisting of a second batch of ministerial nominees, was presented by the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

New submission

The submission took place on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at exactly 03:19 pm, and the list is now in the hands of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Back story

The Senate has already screened 25 nominees from the first batch, with three more nominees yet to be screened at the time of this report.

Following the screening of all the nominees from the first list, Akpabio is expected to unveil the additional nominees proposed by the President.

Last Thursday, Gbajabiamila presented the first list of 28 nominees to the Senate, stating that more names would be forwarded for consideration.

The screening exercise has been ongoing, and the upper chamber adjourned the proceedings until Wednesday after screening nine nominees on Tuesday.

Previous List

Among those recently screened are Dele Alake, Lateef Fagbemi, and Muhammad Idris, with Ali Pate and Doris Uzoka remaining to be screened. Notably, some states, including Adamawa, Bayelsa, Gombe, Kano, Kebbi, Kogi, Lagos, Osun, Yobe, Plateau, Zamfara, and the Federal Capital Territory, are yet to have ministerial nominees put forward.

Section 147(3) of the 1999 Constitution requires the President to appoint at least one minister from each of the 36 states.

New List

In the new list are former Governors Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), Simon Lalong (Plateau), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara) and Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi).

Others are Abdullahi Gwarzo, Bosun Tijani, Maryam Shetty, Isiak Salako, Tunji Alausa, Yusuf Sununu, Ibrahim Geidam, Lola John, Shuaibu Audu, Tahir Mamman, Aliyu Abdullahi, Alkali Saidu, Heineken Lokpobori, Maigari Ahmadu and Zaphaniah Jisalo.
