President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to harnessing Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for the domestic, processing, and export sectors. He emphasized that these resources hold the key to initiating a substantial restructuring of the nation’s economy, fostering widespread growth during his tenure.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with the board and management of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited at the State House, President Tinubu articulated his commitment to addressing challenges that hinder the entrepreneurial progress and development of industrious Nigerians.
The NLNG delegation, led by its chairman, King Edmund Daukuru of Nembe Kingdom, and the NLNG managing director, Philip Mshelbila, engaged in discussions about the strategic importance of Nigeria’s gas resources and their role in shaping the nation’s economic landscape.
President Tinubu conveyed his vision of fostering an environment conducive to best business practices within the oil and gas sector. This approach aims to create abundant opportunities for both Nigerian enterprises and international partners to thrive.
Collaborative efforts, according to the president, are crucial to redefining Nigeria’s economic trajectory. “We will work with all partners to redefine the future of our economy,” he emphasized while engaging with the NLNG delegation.
Highlighting the pivotal role of natural gas in propelling sustainable development and prosperity in Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to forging partnerships with investors, aimed at generating job opportunities and skill development for the youth.
“The objective is to expand the economic possibilities so that Nigerians can benefit,” he affirmed, adding, “Skill development will be vital for the numerous energetic youth who require employment and inclusion. Their futures need to be more secure and prosperous.”
Acknowledging the challenges faced by NLNG, particularly security-related concerns, President Tinubu underscored the significance of stakeholders, including host communities and security agencies, in working collaboratively to find solutions.
In response, the board chairman, King Edmund Daukuru, expressed that the frustrations encountered by non-government stakeholders were being collectively shared with the government. He highlighted the ongoing role of communities in contributing to the resolution of challenges.
As President Tinubu emphasizes the imperative role of gas resources in catalyzing economic transformation, his commitment reflects a concerted effort to harness the nation’s potential for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
