In an important development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu welcomed a delegation from the World Bank at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, August 4, 2023. The delegation was led by the World Bank President, Mr. Ajay Banga.
This visit is part of Mr. Banga’s three-day trip to Nigeria, which started on Wednesday. The purpose of the meeting is yet to be disclosed, but it aligns with Banga’s mission to reshape the 78-year-old institution’s global approach, as stated in a recent statement by the bank.
The World Bank President aims to explore opportunities for job creation for young individuals and women, address energy demands with a focus on renewable energy, and delve into the potential of digitization in Nigeria.
As part of this endeavor, he will visit a World Bank-financed mini-grid power plant providing solar energy to a whole community, and a woman-owned business that has generated over 1,500 service-sector jobs for young Nigerians.
Moreover, representatives from the private sector and civil society will engage in discussions convened by the World Bank during this visit.
