Governor Oyo Seyi Mackinde has ordered the installation of surveillance cameras (CCTV) in all the correctional facilities in the state.
Gov. Makinde gave the order on Sunday while visiting the Abolongo Correctional Center in Oyo, which was attacked by unidentified gunmen on Friday night and hundreds of prisoners escaped.
Nearly 1,000 prisoners were released in the raid, but a prison official said 262 people had been recaptured.
The governor, who was accompanied by top government functionaries during the inspection, ordered security cameras to be linked to the state security room.
He said his government would take immediate steps to protect the facility and also ordered that the main road leading to the site be assessed.
He called on the public, especially citizens of the state, to calm down.

“In principle, the investigation is still ongoing and we can’t say for sure if it was an isolated incident or the start of a bigger problem we have to address.
“But whatever the case is, we have made an assessment and taken some immediate decisions.
“We have challenges around the country; banditry, insurgency and terrorism.
