A dramatic turn of events unfolded as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Imo State sacked one of its officers for participating in a protest led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Unions Congress (TUC).
The officer, seen wearing a special marshal regalia during the demonstration against the Federal Government’s removal of fuel subsidy, faced severe consequences for his actions.
Confirming the decision, Sector Commander of FRSC in Imo, Evaristus Ebeniro, stated that the officer had been de-marshalled and was no longer part of the corps.
Although the protester was once a special corps marshal, he had already been de-marshalled due to inactivity and lack of commitment to duties.
He was summoned while serving as a special marshal, but he absconded, leading to his de-marshalling in absentia, in accordance with the corps’ regulations.
Furthermore, the FRSC arrested the protester and retrieved his regalia following the incident.
The matter came to light after the command initiated an investigation to ascertain the identity of the protester, who was found to be a unionist.
