Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been arraigned before the Ekiti State Magistrate Court.
Farotimi, who was arrested on Tuesday in his chamber at Lagos state by operatives of the Ekiti State police command, leading to far-flung controversy and questioning over the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Farotimi was brought before the court at about 10:25 am on Wednesday, where he faced a 16-count charge of defamation of character against Aare Afe Babalola SAN, the founder of Afe Babalola University. The charges range from Farotimi’s recently published book, titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System,” in which he allegedly traduced and defamed Babalola’s character.
