Again, FG Meeting With ASUU Deadlock

The academics union are demanding adequate welfare, revitalisation of public universities and university autonomy among other demands.

Another stakeholders meeting that was held on Tuesday evening with the Ministry of Labour and Employment proves abortive.

The Minister, who was unable to persuade the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing warning strike, despite the special appeal made to them by top government officials.

FG declares ASUU strike illegal after conciliatory meeting ends in deadlock

ASUU representatives during the meeting had said they were no longer interested in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

They demanded action on past agreements.

Recall, ASUU had embarked on one-month warning strike on February 14, 2022, to press home their demands, including the adoption of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution payment platform.

Tuesday’s meeting is the second of its kind since the union declared a one-month warning strike three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, expressed optimism that the impasse will be resolved soon
