The Supreme Court has set Tuesday, May 9, 2023 to decide the wining or lose of the disputed July 16 governorship election between major contenders in Osun State.

Today, Monday, May 8, 2023, the Supreme Court, after hearing the arguments of all parties involved, set 24 hours for the pronouncement of the verdict.

Recall that Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Isiaku Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

Dissatisfied with the result, Oyetola went to court but was declared the winner. Adeleke then took the case to the Court of Appeal, which overturned the lower court’s decision and declared him the governor.

Following the decision of the Court of Appeal, Oyetola once again approached the Supreme Court and asked the court to declare him the winner of the election.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will announce the final verdict no later than 14:00 hours on May 9, 2023.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had on Friday, March 24, set aside a court judgment that nullified the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.

The Court of Appeal adopted a unanimous decision of the judges formed by three members, allowing the grounds of appeal brought by Ademola.

In addition to the court’s ruling, the court sentenced All Progressive Congress’s (APC) candidate Gboyega Oyetola to a fine up to N500,000 in the main judgment, which was adopted by Muhammad Lawal.
