The management of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has postponed the resumption of its students till further notice.

It would be recalled that the school published a Modified 2021/2022 academic session calendar on Thursday, 23rd March, 2023 where Monday, 29th of May is slated for the resumption of second semester 2021/2022 academic year.

According to the statement as it was signed by the management, “students would be kept posted when a new date for the resumption is decided soonest by the Senate of Ahmadu Bello University.”

Meanwhile, the management has earlier released a statement on Saturday 20th of May, 2023 calling for understanding the current power outage all over the university community which is now clocking three weeks. In this light, there have been speculations that the indefinite postponement of the resumption is therefore due to the lingering electricity blackout which many students have been seriously lamenting about.

A final year student of Political Science and International Studies, Abbas Rahmon bitterly complained in an exclusive chat with our correspondence that since the announcement has been made he has stopped everything relating to academics as his moral for the concluding part of the journey has been hurt again giving instances that many colleagues in other institutions have graduated while some are already serving in the NYSC.

In another chat, a WhatsApp user known as Maye expressed satisfaction about the development adding that it is better to spend 7yrs in studying instead of rushing things and gain nothing. “I rather stay in ABU for 7yrs and learn what I’m suppose to learn than to be rush in haste and graduate with an empty head.”

So far while filling this report most of the final year students have not agree that the announcement is genuine claiming that they can’t wait to graduate and leave the academic for another stage of their lives.
