Reports indicate that Adamu tendered his resignation letter on the evening of July 16, 2023, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s return from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

The Resignation

According to sources, Adamu, who previously served as the governor of Nasarawa State, sent the resignation letter to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, around 4 pm on Sunday.

Although the letter was addressed to President Tinubu, it was delivered to his chief of staff due to the president’s absence at the AU meeting.

A reliable source confirmed the resignation, stating, “He has resigned. The resignation letter signed by him has been sent to the villa. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu. But since the president is away in Kenya for the AU meeting, the letter was sent to his chief of staff.”

Another source close to Adamu disclosed that the national chairman decided to resign after learning of a plot against him by influential individuals within the president’s circle, aimed at embarrassing him during the upcoming party meetings scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. However, these meetings were later postponed and rescheduled.

A founding member of the APC revealed that Adamu stepped down upon discovering that these influential personalities were gathering signatures to impeach him during the forthcoming meetings. The senator chose to resign to spare himself from potential humiliation.

What Abdullahi Adamu is saying when contacted

When contacted by Daily Trust for comment, Adamu declined to speak on the matter until President Tinubu returns from the AU meeting. “I won’t talk about the issue because the president is away,” said Adamu, who was the preferred candidate for the chairmanship seat by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the national chairman of the APC has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, leaving many speculating about the reasons behind his abrupt decision.

As the party awaits President Tinubu’s return, the focus now shifts to the upcoming party meetings and the potential implications of Adamu’s resignation on the APC’s leadership.
