Human Rights Chambers, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin organized a debate competition for all members of the Law Students Society, University of Ilorin. The finals held on the 17th of August, 2021.
Speaking with iDeemlawful News Publication, The Lord Activist Farouq Ibrahim made available that “The modalities of the competition was read by the Solicitor-General of the chambers, O. T. Alexander, Debate session was moderated by the Deputy Lord Activist of the chambers, Hauwa Usman.
Participants debated on the topic “Nigerians Failure at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Athletes or Government:- who is to be blamed?”
Participants were adjudged based on their composure, persuasiveness, style and time management. The debate was laced with astute, experienced and seasoned debaters, public speakers and orators in persons of Mr Sodiq Farhan Ayomide, Miss Gideon Opeyemi Faith and Miss Oluwatobiloba Adebara Bolanle. The profile of the judges was read by Activist Yusuf Kamila.
It was also gathered that, Participants who partook in the debate competition were winners who proceeded at the level of the preliminaries held on the 11th of August, 2021 which the topic “Failing Unity in Nigeria; a reality or a farce” .
At the end of it all, Miss Ugwa Merit, Miss Hameerah Rahman, Mr Opoola Opeyemi and Mr Azubuike Samson came 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
In their closing remarks, the judges commended the efforts of all participants for their top-notch arguments and also corrected their mistakes.
The Lord Activist of the Chambers, Faruq Ibrahim Adeiza also gave his remarks, commending the efforts of the debaters and appreciates the judges for a job well-done.
In the end, prizes were awarded and certificates were presented to all participants by the President of the Students Union, University of Ilorin, Mr Taofik Waliu Opeyemi (Omoluabi).
