Detectives of the Igbesa Division, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested Chidi Ebere, 27, for the alleged murder of a commercial motorcyclist.
The victim, Sunday Ogbu, 36, was killed in Igbesa on Wednesday at about 7am.
The suspect had allegedly posed as a passenger before attempting to hijack the motorcycle, leading to a violent altercation in which he stabbed the motorcyclist to death.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Thursday.
Babaseyi said: “The incident occurred on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, at about 7 a.m. The suspect reportedly boarded a motorcycle operated by the victim, Sunday Ogbu ‘M’, aged 36, and attacked him in an attempt to seize the bike, resulting in a violent struggle.
“A witness at the scene raised the alarm, prompting police to rush to the scene. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“The suspect was apprehended immediately, while the motorcycle and the knife used in the attack were recovered as exhibits. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for thorough investigation and prosecution.”
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the dastardly act and assured that justice would be served. Ojajuni urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
