Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has officially secured a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilogrammes (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The milestone, achieved in partnership with food brand Gino at Victoria Island, Lagos, has now been formally certified by Guinness World Records.

In a statement on Monday, GWR confirmed that Hilda, working with Gino Nigeria, prepared a record-breaking 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) of Nigerian-style jollof rice last Friday.

Announcing the feat on X, the body wrote, “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”

Baci, who shot to fame after her headline-making cook-a-thon, has once again placed Nigerian cuisine on the global map.

Ahead of the confirmation, Guinness World Records had cheered the chef on, reposting a video from the Friday event on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”

In May 2023, Hilda made history with the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking 93 hours and 11 minutes in Lekki, Lagos, an achievement that drew worldwide attention.

Her record sparked a wave of record-breaking fever across Africa, with many inspired to attempt marathon cooking events.

The title for the longest cooking marathon has since changed hands twice. In October 2023, Alan Fisher from Ireland cooked for 119 hr 57 min 16 sec, before Australia’s Evette Quoibia pushed the benchmark further in February 2024 with 140 hr 11 min 11 sec.
