Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted the wife and daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Swasun, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sakpefu community, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to reports, the attack occurred on Sunday night when the assailants invaded the community, firing shots indiscriminately to create panic among residents.
The victims, identified as Hajiya Fatima, the wife of the APC chairman, and his daughter, Amina, were taken from their home in the Sakpefu area.
A member of the APC state executive council, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the incident in an interview with Vanguard on Monday morning.
“It’s true that our Chairman’s wife and daughter in Patigi were kidnapped last night.
‘I spoke with him this morning, and he said he was just lucky not to be abducted by the bandits, who scaled his fence and began shooting into the air.
“He said they broke into one of the rooms where his wife and daughter were and took them away, firing shots as they left,” the source recounted.
Reports indicate the gunmen operated for several minutes before whisking the victims away to an undisclosed location.
“The bandits abducted his wife, Hajiya Fatima, and his daughter, Amina, and took them to an unknown destination,” another party member confirmed.
Patigi and other parts of Kwara North have recorded several abductions in recent months, with residents urging government and security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the growing menace.
Recently, gunmen attacked the Shagbe community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, killing some residents and abducting several others during a raid on the palace of the community’s monarch.
