3 Killed in Deadly Bandit Ambush on Kwara Motorists

No fewer than three people have been killed after suspected bandits launched a deadly ambush on motorists in Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Thursday along the Rore and Aranorin communities in Irepodun Local Government Area, throwing residents and travellers into panic as news of the killings spread rapidly.

According to Sahara Reporters, eyewitnesses disclosed that the armed men, believed to be operating from hideouts in nearby forests, opened fire on unsuspecting motorists in what appeared to be a coordinated attack.

As of Friday morning, it remained unclear whether the assailants also abducted any victims, as details of the assault were still emerging.

The attack adds to the rising wave of violence plaguing Kwara State’s Ifelodun and Irepodun local government areas in recent months.

Communities such as Babanla, Shegbe, Ologomo, Alabe, and Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government have suffered repeated raids, forcing hundreds of residents to abandon their ancestral homes.

Several victims have been kidnapped for ransom, while others have been killed in similar armed invasions.

Residents fear the violence could escalate further unless urgent security interventions are introduced.

Some community leaders have appealed to both the state and federal governments to deploy more security personnel to vulnerable areas, warning that many villages remain exposed as attacks persist.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
