Hassan Aisha Eniola reports – The ongoing bombardment of the Palestinian Occupied land by the Apartheid state of Israel has received a global reaction from citizens worldwide and governments. Here is what Jimmy Carter has to say about the Isreal-Palestinian issue.

The 39th President of the United States of America, Jimmy Carter, during an interview on his book “PALESTINE: Peace not Apartheid,” was asked about the reason for naming the book.

He mentioned that PALESTINE, as in the title, involves land that belongs to Palestinians, not Israelis. He proceeded by explaining that “there’s no doubt, within the occupied territories of Palestinian land is a horrendous example of apartheid; The occupation of the land, the confiscation of that land, the building of settlements on it and the colonization of that land and the connection of the settlements by highways on which Palestinians cannot travel or even cross.

The prosecution of the Palestinians in the occupied territories by the occupation forces is one of the worst examples of human rights deprivation that I know”.

The interviewer further asked him if the prosecution could be compared to the oppression in Africa, like that of Rwanda or the civil war. The president then answered that he is not going back in history about Rwanda because he knows the persecution of the Palestinians is one of the worst examples of human rights abuse.

In his words, “What is being done to the Palestinians now is horrendous in their territory by the occupying power, which is Israeli. They have taken away all the basic human rights of the Palestinians, as was done in South Africa against the blacks.

I made it very clear in this book that the Apartheid is not based on racism as it was in South Africa. Still, it was based on the desire of Israelis to acquire land that belongs to the Palestinians to retain that land to exclude the Palestinians from their property and subjugate them so they can arouse them to demonstrate their disapproval of being robbed of their property, that is what is happening in the West Bank.

And the people in America never knew about this and never discussed it. There’s no criticism of Israel in this country.

The basic call of the conflict is a sustained Occupation, and this is a direct violation of the United Nations Resolutions; it’s a direct violation of the commitment that Israeli leaders have made in the past that Israel would withdraw from the occupied territories and they have failed to do so”.
