The Nigerian government has banned the importation of Indomie noodles into the country.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, in an interview with journalists on Monday, May 1, 2023. Nigerian regulators acted amid an investigation by authorities in Taiwan and Malaysia after ethylene oxide, a cancer-causing substance, was allegedly found in the product.

According to NAFDAC bosses, the compound of interest is ethylene oxide and the director of the Directorate of Food Laboratory Services has stepped in and started working on developing analytical methods. However, she promised to inform Nigerians of the results in time.
