Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde criticizes Atiku Abubakar for not personally reaching out to him after the recent Ibadan explosion.

While hosting Labour Party’s Peter Obi on Monday, Makinde expressed disappointment that Mr. Abubakar had not offered condolences through a call or text, contrasting it with President Bola Tinubu’s prompt contact.

The governor emphasized the need for political leaders to balance their roles in politics, governance, and humanity.

Makinde openly stated, “The president has reached out to me, you have reached out to me, but my party candidate, not even a call or text message.”

The governor appreciated Peter Obi’s visit, where Obi conveyed condolences for the tragic incident that impacted over 20 residential buildings, resulting in four deaths and numerous injuries.

He added, “I’m saying this openly so that our leaders would know that, yeah, you have time for politics, you have time for governance, and you have time for humanity.”

Meanwhile, Abubakar had expressed his condolences through a tweet shortly after the incident.

Mr Atiku said, “I wish to express my condolences to the good people and government of Oyo State over the explosion that rocked the capital city of Ibadan late yesterday night.

“While the government continues to provide humanitarian support to victims of the explosion, I commiserate with the families of those who might have lost their lives and property to the explosion.”
