The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially announced the eagerly awaited release date for the results of the 2023 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The results are set to be unveiled on Monday, 7 August, marking a significant milestone for the multitude of candidates who participated in the examination.

Moyosola Adesina, the Head of the Public Affairs unit at WAEC, provided insight into this much-anticipated development through a notice shared with PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday. The impending release of the SSCE results comes as a beacon of hope for individuals aspiring to secure admission into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

For some candidates who sat for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the absence of the required SSCE results in their initial application forms has been a concern. However, these candidates declared that they were awaiting their SSCE results, positioning themselves for potential admission opportunities. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) conducted the UTME for aspiring students nationwide in May, initiating the admission procedures for many tertiary institutions.

The 2023 SSCE saw a total of 1,621,853 candidates from both government and private schools registering for the examination. Spanning a duration of seven weeks, from 8 May to 23 June, the examination covered a diverse array of subjects and topics. Patrick Areghan, the Head of Nigeria’s office (HNO) of WAEC, previously stated in May that the tradition of releasing results 45 days after the conclusion of the last paper would be upheld.

Mr. Areghan further elaborated that the meticulous process of marking 76 subjects encompassing 197 papers was successfully completed on Tuesday, 1 August. This substantial task was carried out across 85 marking venues in addition to an electronic marking center. Remarkably, many examiners concluded their marking well ahead of the deadline, underscoring the commitment and efficiency of the WAEC team.

As the announcement of the 2023 SSCE results draws near, candidates, parents, and educators alike are brimming with anticipation. The disclosure of the results not only signifies the culmination of a rigorous examination period but also ushers in a period of critical decision-making for those pursuing higher education.
