Governor Yusuf Abba Kabir of Kano state has been widely applauded for reducing university school fees by 50%, drawing jubilation among students and parents alike.

In a recent interview, the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusfu Kofar Mata, announced the significant reduction in school fees as a means to alleviate the financial strain on families in light of the current challenging economic circumstances.

The governor’s administration has recognized the economic hardships faced by families and has taken proactive measures to alleviate the financial burdens stemming from recent increases in registration fees.

This substantial fee reduction will benefit several institutions, including Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST), Yusuf Maitama Sule University (YUMSUK), and Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKSIL). Additionally, the beneficial measure extends to Kano State Polytechnic, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Audu Bako College of Agriculture, and Kano College of Remedial Science (KAS).

Governor Kabir had earlier approved N700 million to cover school fees for 7,000 Kano state indigenes studying at Bayero University Kano (BUK). He also sanctioned N854 million for the Auren Zaurawa Mass Wedding Initiative.

He emphasized that the N700 million approved for Kano students at BUK was a response to the economic challenges the country is currently facing. He also reiterated the state’s commitment to alleviating the financial impact on students and families.

The state government’s initiatives also extend to the rehabilitation of pedestrian bridges at Bayero University Kano Old Campus, Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies, and the Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.
