Five personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have died after being hit by reckless motorists while on duty.

The fatalities occurred in September at different duty posts nationwide.

As a result, the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, has ordered that all drivers responsible for these fatal incidents be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law to serve as a deterrent.

FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, in a statement on Tuesday, said the tragedies happened across Ekiti Sector Command on September 6, 2025; Ogun Sector Command on September 8, 2025; Taraba Sector Command on September 15, 2025; Jos By-Pass Unit Command on September 19, 2025; and Obollo Afor Unit Command on September 24, 2025.

He stated that “their deaths are not mere statistics, they represent human lives dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads.”

He added: “gravely disturbed, the corps marshal noted with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults.”

He stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness endangering its officers, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law.

He urged personnel across formations nationwide to remain more alert and prioritise their safety, noting that they must stay alive in order to save others.

In line with this, the FRSC is strengthening collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure the protection of its officers and installations. He clarified that the move is not for aggression but as a safeguard to deter attacks and allow officers to perform their duties without fear.
