NACJ UDUS President, Pen Press EIC Win 2021 ICIR Investigative Journalism Award

Abiodun Jamiu, a 400 level student of Political Science at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, doubling as President of National Association of Campus Journalists, UDUS, has emerged the overall winner of the ICIR Investigative/Data Journalism award of the year 2021.
Recall that five campus journalists were shortlisted as finalists for the ICIR awards where three of the shortlisted journalists would emerge first, second and third positions respectively. 
Abiodun Jamiu was, however, announced as the overall winner at the UCJ UI awards dinners and handover ceremony which took place on Saturday 23rd October, 2021, at Abubakr Abdsalam hall, University of Ibadan, Oyo State. 
The overall winner, as promised, went home with grand price of One hundred and twenty thousand naira with an internship opportunity at the ICIR.
In an exclusive interview with Abiodun Jamiu who is also a member of Pen Press UDUS, he expressed his happiness for been the winner of this year UCJ UI/ ICIR award. He said that he was speechless and could not still believe it.
“As I have always said, awards aren’t just validation, it’s the world telling me to do more. This is a testament to the fact that consistency pays,” he said.
Abdulrasheed Hammad, a 400 level student from the Faculty of Law and also Editor in Chief of the best and most outstanding press outfit on UDUS campus, Pen Press UDUS, also emerged the second runner-up at the ICIR award.
Hammad, as promised by the organizations, went home with a sum of Fifty thousand naira with an internship opportunity at the ICIR.
While speaking with PEN PRESS, Abdulrasheed Hammad said that he was super excited for emerging as one of the winners of the ICIR Investigative/Data Journalism award.
“Well, I have applied for different awards and media opportunities that I was not shortlisted, but I thank God for making me among the winners of this ICIR award,” he said.
Hammad also advised fellow campus journalists to be persistent in what they are doing. 
“They should not relent if they are facing rejection because rejection would make them stronger,” he added.
