The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, 1st October, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora on this historic occasion.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, in the statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Monday, urged citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence in 1960.

The Minister expressed confidence that, with the cooperation of all Nigerians, the country will continue to grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.

He wished Nigerians a happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration.

Meanwhile, as part of the celebrations, President Tinubu will deliver a national broadcast at 7:00 a.m. on October 1.

The address is expected to highlight his government’s reform agenda and reflect on the country’s democratic journey since independence in 1960.

Later in the morning, at 10:00 a.m., the traditional Independence anniversary parade will take place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and invited guests in attendance.

The government had earlier unveiled the complete line-up of activities under the theme, “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”

On Sunday, September 28, an inter-denominational church service was held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

On Monday, September 29, attention shifted to civic engagement with a world press conference at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja.

The celebrations will conclude on Friday, October 3, with the unveiling of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate at the State House Conference Centre.
