1. The current Mpox outbreak in Nigeria has spread to 30 local government areas in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with 40 confirmed cases so far. A report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) also showed that there are so far a total of 802 suspected cases in 33 states of the Federation.

2. One week after returning from a trip to France, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is preparing for a trip to the People’s Republic of China. According to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the Chinese trip will take place in the first week of September.

3. Residents of Chikaji community in Sabongari Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State have called on the state government to do proper channelisation of the community. This followed flooding that occurred from the early hours of Monday to mid-afternoon after a heavy rainfall.

4. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Taoreed Lagbaja on Tuesday said the military will not heed calls for overthrow of democratically elected government to satisfy some interests. Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State at the opening ceremony of the COAS Combined 2nd and 3rd Quarters Conference, Lagbaja said the call for military takeover was majorly coming from young Nigerians who never experienced the era of Nigeria’s extensive military rule.

5. The Nigerian Navy has handed over 72 bags of Cannabis sativa, each weighing 40kg and four arrested suspects to the Marine Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. This was contained in a statement issued by the Base Information Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS BEECROFT, Lt. Hussaini Ibrahim, on Tuesday, adding that the Navy handed over three Ghanaian and one Beninese.

6. The Federal Government has finally initiated plans to enlist the services of an external auditor to verify the N2.7tn fuel subsidy claim by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited against the government. The yet-to-be-named auditor will assist the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation in determining the real amount owed by the government.

7. The Federal Government and the states have raised N100bn for the procurement of prepaid electricity meters. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said this was under the Presidential Meter Initiative programme.

8. The Niger State Police Command said it has uncovered a large cache of explosive devices, including bombs and Improvised Explosive Devices buried in multiple locations in the state. Although investigation is going on to unravel the sources of the explosive devices, they are suspected to have been concealed by terrorists and bandits who have been wreaking havoc in several places.

9. The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended four persons for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N630,000 in the Imeruro area of Atan-Ijebu, Ijebu-North-East Local Government Area, and electrical installations, including cables and solar panels, in the Warewa area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.

10. Edo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has said he would be independent-minded if elected. Speaking on ‘Politics Today’, a Channels Television programme, on Monday, the PDP candidate said he would avoid the pitfalls of those in power when it comes to managing relationships with predecessors
