Popular Muslim Scholar, Sheikh Muyideen Bello is dead

Renowned Islamic scholar and preacher, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello, passed away on Friday at the age of 84.

The cleric’s death was announced on Facebook by Ibadan-based cleric Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek.

According to Akewugbagold, the revered preacher returned to his Creator on Friday, and he prayed that God would be pleased with his soul.

  • Birth and Early Life

In the year 1940, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello was born into the esteemed family of Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello at Ita Olukoyi in Ibadan.

  • Education

He completed his elementary and secondary education at I.D.C. School, Elekuro, Ibadan.

  • Islamic Education

Between 1963 and 1967, he attended Mahdul Arabiy, Elekuro, where he gained proficiency in Arabic and Islamic studies.

  • Beginning of Islamic Scholarship

From the age of 10, Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello developed a passion for Islamic propagation and began preaching across various parts of Ibadan.

  • Role with Ansar-Ud-Deen Missionary

He served as the Missioner for the renowned Islamic organisation, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria.

  • Global Islamic Outreach

The cleric frequently delivered Islamic messages globally, including in the UK, the US, and neighbouring African countries.

In addition to his role as a scholar, he was a community leader who significantly contributed to promoting Islamic teachings and values within his community.

In April 2024, Sheikh Bello was honoured with the title “Sulthonil Waa’izeen” (King of Preachers) in Yorubaland by the Supreme Council for Islamic Preachers, Southwest Nigeria.

Sheikh Muhydeen Ajani Bello passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the age of 84
